The literal meaning of ‘Kumari’ is ‘Virgin’. But, in context to Kumari Goddess, she is a virgin and the one who has not experienced menarche. Kumari and menarche are analogous to each other. Jaya Prakash Malla, the last Malla king of Kathmandu had a dream one night. In the dream goddess, Taleju told him she would never return ever again. So, Taleju asked him to search for a virgin girl from a Newari community. and, goddess Teleju would resist within that virgin girl as an incarnation in a form of Living Goddess Kumārī.
